I’ve always been fascinated by celebrities. I know that they’re just regular people whose lives are in the spotlight but I’m still fascinated nonetheless.
But I’m over the Us Weeklys and Entertainment Tonights, which have become way too intrusive. So the perfect way for me to get my star fix is through Inside the Actors Studio, which features entertainers who talk about what they want to talk about.
Hosted by James Lipton (some may find him pretentious, I think he’s a delight), who can shine a light on a celebrity’s true personality like no other, Inside the Actors Studio not only features enlightening interviews but because they’re conducted in front of an audience of students, it truly gives the impression of a college class.
Inside the Actors Studio is a guilty pleasure, as Lipton delves into the acting lives of today’s most popular actors, revealing a bit about their personality and craft that a viewer won’t find on any other program anywhere.
But my favourite feature is the Pivot Questions, 10 queries by Bernard Pivot that Lipton asks every guest at the end of the program. They include “What is your favourite word?” and “What sound to you hate?” In case you were wondering, my favourite word: is “whatever” and the sound I hate is a balloon popping. Shudder.
Featuring all-new episodes, Lipton welcomes some of the world’s most accomplished artists for some insightful interviews. This time around, he welcomes Kate Hudson, Amy Poehler, Judd Apatow, Denis Leary, Hilary Swank and the cast of Family Guy.
This week, Lipton kicks off the season with acclaimed Canadian director James Cameron, who is coming off the highs of Avatar. It’s the second time Cameron and Lipton are discussing big-screen records being shattered, but the Titanic director will also discuss how environmental issues played a role in Avatar, as well as revealing where huge mistakes were made in the final edits of the blockbuster.
Exactly what I need to gear myself up with before I go see Avatar. That’s right, I haven’t seen it yet (I think me and Hubby are the last two remaining who haven’t), but that’s a whole other topic.
Inside the Actors Studio airs Sunday, March 21, 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT, Bravo!
