Kids shows are hot. Need proof? Look no further than the popularity of The Suite Life on Deck, Hannah Montana and The Wizards of Waverly Place.

Fans of those shows should add Overruled! to their list of must-see shows that are entertaining and smart in their storytelling.

The Family Channel series stars former Naturally Sadie cast members Jacob Kraemer and Jasmine Richards as two high school students who head up their institution’s teen court.

Kraemer plays Jared “Coop” Cooper, whose easygoing attitude and quick thinking make him a natural as one of Banting High’s lawyers, while Richards is Tara Bohun, the strict judge of this “high court.” Sally Taylor-Isherwod (Bon Voyage), Nick Spencer, Tammy Isbell (Paradise Falls) and Tom Barnett round out the cast.

This week’s episode finds Coop defending a girl accused of stealing money from the very snack bar that she runs on school grounds, which leads to miscommunication, misunderstanding, and lots of laughs.

Kraemer is a natural actor, comfortable in his own skin, and relishing his role as Coop.

“We’ve had a blast on the set,” he recently told TVGuide.ca over the phone. “The cast and crew don’t make it feel like work at all, and this first season has lots of laughs as we get to know these characters, and get into the cases.”

Can’t get enough of Overruled! on TV? Family offers two online games to complement the series. Overruled: You Rule lets viewers weigh in on cases and vote to decide the outcome, and Overruled: Case Cracker challenges fans to solve a puzzle before time runs out.

Overruled! airs Sundays at 6:25 p.m. ET/PT on Family
