For the past two weeks, the coup d’etat was floating around the Big Brother house, and while viewers knew Jeff had it in his possession, he was careful not to let on how much power he had.
Though people assumed he had it, no one knew for sure — not even Jordan, his partner in the house.
So when it was time for the coup d’etat holder to use the power — or not — it was almost anticlimactic when Jeff stood up, removed Lydia and Russell from the block, and put up Natalie and Jessie for eviction. That was the smart thing to do, Jeff’s a smart player, and Jessie was voted out by a vote of 3-2. Poor Jessie, even though he was expecting it, the musclehead looked shell-shocked and dazed as he spoke with Julie Chen outside of the house. Ah well, at least he made the jury.
But what should’ve been the next smart move didn’t happen. Despite being Head of Household last week, because Jeff used the coup d’etat, it for some reason nullified her HoH status and she was allowed to compete to run the house again. Um, totally bogus in my book and merely a way to drum up more drama in the coming weeks since Chima is clearly dramatic.
The producers obviously want to milk the Chima/Russell battle for all its worth, so what better way to do that than to ensure the women of the house, led by Chima naturally, continue their plan to eliminate all the males in the game. I’ve never been a fan of getting rid of contestants on reality shows by gender — it seems like a ridiculous pecking order but it never fails, whether it’s a show featuring houseguests or castaways struggling to survive in a deserted, faraway place.
While Chima isn’t HoH for the second week in a row, one of her next best options is now that Michele has won. I’m not sure about Michele; in fact, I never really liked her until she briefly aligned herself with Russell last week. But I can’t tell if she truly believes she isn’t lying to everyone about Russell, or she’s honestly that moronic and really believes she’s telling the truth. I’m hoping, for Russell’s sake, that she’s just playing that girl power schtick just to look good in Chima’s eyes. But she seems like the kind of person to float by, seemingly all innocent — but I’m onto her, and have been since the first day.
Could — gulp — Ronnie have been right about his former clique-mate all along? Is Michele really the devil in disguise, and could she win this thing? Unfortunately, I think she can.
Who do you think’s got a shot to win this? denette@tvguide.ca
