Megan Mullally has one of those faces you definitely recognize, but you might not remember her name. In fact, even today’s announcer, a Variety editor, introduces the Will & Grace alum to TV Critics as Morgan Mullally, a hiccup that becomes the session’s standing joke.
“My close friends call me Morgan, it’s OK,” the actress quips.
Mullally is here to talk about her new role on the sophomore season of Party Down, a Rob Thomas series currently airing on Starz. She was brought on for Season 2 when Season 1 star Jane Lynch had to pull out thanks to her commitment to Glee.
“I’ve already been demoted to Morgan so I’m kind of used to it,” says Mullally about being a replacement actress. “I didn’t really think of it that way [though]. When I got offered this I was really excited.”
Mullally’s character is a middle-aged Midwest woman who recently moved to Hollywood, and takes up a job with the current characters on the show. “She’s pretty clueless and extremely eager and naïve in a way,” says the actress.
For fans wanting to see a proper Lynch exit, they’ll have to hang on until the finale. That’s when Lynch makes a guest appearance, where she and Mullally have a showdown of sorts.
“You can’t replace me, I’m irreplaceable,” states Lynch in the teaser trailer.
How so very true.
Party Down begins in the U.S. in April. Super Channel owns the rights to air it here in Canada, but has not yet released an broadcast date.
