I’m shocked — Lisa Rinna’s kids think she’s embarrassing, yet she embraces that. And here is the essence of the former Melrose Place star; all attention is good attention, and the more the better.
It should come as no surprise that Rinna and her husband, Harry Hamlin, have decided to showcase their Hollywood relationship on a new reality show, in hopes of getting back in the spotlight. You know, because Dancing With the Stars didn’t work out for them.
Although I have yet to screen the first episode, judging by the clip and ensuing panel at the TV Critics Press Tour, nothing is off limits, not Hamlin’s former marriage to Nicollette Sheridan, nor Rinna’s silicone lips.
“I harken it to getting a tattoo,” Rinna says in response to a reporter’s question about the famous pucker. “I was 24 years old and my friends and I had just seen Beaches. I went and I did something permanent. If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t want to do it.”
In the couple’s eyes, the realty series is unlike other reality shows out there because it follows their journey as a couple, and doesn’t feature them being “crazy. We’re not drunk and falling down,” according to Rinna, who clearly never saw Newlyweds. By the same token, neither personality was crazy about the idea of opening up their lives to the camera, but recognized that they needed to do something to get work.
“In these times, you really have to step up and do what is happening in the marketplace,” Rinna says. “For us to be two actors just waiting to have the phone ring and be hired, I think in this day and age you have to be much more proactive if you want to send your kids to school, and have a life, and really survive it.”
We shall see.
Harry Loves Lisa premieres on TV Land (U.S. only) this fall. Canadian broadcast/dates have not been confirmed.
