Critic’s darling Mad Men has finally caught a whiff of scandal – one of the AMC show’s writers, Kater Gordon, has lost her job.

The news comes a month after she won an Emmy for co-writing the hit series, which was created by Matthew Weiner. No reason was given for her swift dismissal.

"We think [Kater's] done a great job, particularly for someone whose career has progressed so quickly," a source told Deadline Hollywood in an email.

"Now, however, Matt has reluctantly decided that their relationship has reached its full potential."

Gordon first joined the show as Weiner’s assistant, eventually becoming a full-time writer who lent her talents to last season’s finale. She also co-wrote the Emmy-winning Season 2 episode "Meditations In An Emergency."

Her departure isn’t being called a firing quite yet, and reps for the show have not yet released a statement.

Mad Men has wrapped filming for the current season.
