Tough economic times must be taking its toll on Rip Torn.
The 79-year-old actor, who’s best known for his six year stint as Artie on HBO’s The Larry Sanders Show, was arrested Friday night after officials allegedly found him carrying a loaded revolver inside a bank in Salisbury, Conn., reports Entertainment Weekly.
A police report states that Torn used “forced entry” to get inside the bank and was “highly intoxicated” when taken into custody.
Torn has been charged with burglary and criminal trespassing, and is being held on a $100,000 cash bond. He’s set to appear in court on Feb. 1.
In 2007, Torn plead guilty to a DUI charge in North Salem, N.Y., and paid a fine. In 2004, he was acquitted of a similar charge when a Manhattan jury ruled there was insufficient evidence to prove the actor was under the influence when he got into a minor car collision with a taxi.
For his role on Larry Sanders, Torn was nominated six consecutive times for an Emmy Award, winning best supporting actor in a comedy series in 1996.
Since the series ended in 1998, the actor has gone on to guest-star in various TV shows such as Will & Grace, The Lyon’s Den, Law & Order: CI and most recently, as Don Geiss on 30 Rock.
He’s also starred in a bevy of films including Men in Black, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Bee Movie, and received an Academy Award nomination back in 1983 for his work on Cross Creek.
