Sad news out of Hollywood today, as TMZ.com reports that Canadian actor Corey Haim is dead. He was 38. The gossip website says the ‘80s heartthrob passed away, possibly due to a drug overdose.

The Los Angeles Police Department was called to St. Joseph’s Medical Center shortly before 4 a.m. PT to investigate; Haim had reportedly been found unresponsive in his apartment.

Ed Winter of the Los Angeles coroner's office explained to Entertainment Tonight that the actor "woke up somewhere between 11:30 and 11:45 p.m. complaining of flu-like symptoms. He got out of bed, feeling weak, and fell to his knees. His mother called paramedics. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:15 a.m."

Winter stressed that no illegal drugs were found, but some prescription drugs were identified at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Haim shot to fame in the ‘80s alongside longtime buddy Corey Feldman in The Lost Boys, which also starred Kiefer Sutherland, and other teen movies such as License to Drive, Lucas and Dream a Little Dream.

Haim ran into difficulty after his Hollywood star started to lose its lustre, dabbling in drugs and alcohol. He took out an ad in Variety magazine in February 2008, looking for work: “This is not a stunt. I’m back. I’m ready to work. I’m ready to make amends,” the full-page ad read.

Haim and Feldman reunited for a 2007 reality series on A&E called The Two Coreys, which followed the two as they went to casting calls, ate and bickered with one another. It lasted for two seasons.
