After checking in to rehab Feb. 23 for what his rep said was a “preventative measure,” Charlie Sheen is getting ready to return to work.
The Two and a Half Men star is scheduled to be back on the set next Tuesday, says CBC.ca, kicking the show’s production back into action.
On Monday, Sheen is slated to appear in an Aspen, Colo., court for domestic abuse charges connected to his arrest Christmas Day.
Last month, Men’s producers said via a statement that they supported Sheen’s decision to enter into "voluntary inpatient care at a treatment centre."
Sheen, 44, was arrested over the holidays after a fight with his wife, Brooke Mueller, at their Aspen home. She claimed he held a knife to her throat and threatened her life, but he denied it.
Prosecutors later charged Sheen with felony menacing and misdemeanour charges of third-degree assault and criminal mischief; the most serious charge could land him in jail for three years.
Mueller is also in rehab for a substance abuse; she checked in Feb. 9. Her lawyer, Yale Galanter, has claimed she wants the charges dismissed.
Mueller’s credibility regarding the incident was in jeopardy because, according to TMZ.com, she had been drinking before she called 911. A stint in rehab can’t help her case.
If Sheen does serve prison time, the future of Two and a Half Men could be at risk, and CBS will have to consider the possibility of losing the show – which nets an average of nearly 15 million viewers per week, and subsequently attracts big advertisers.
Sheen isn’t the only Two and a Half Men star swirling in drama. In December, Jon Cryer received a threatening call on the set. A former boyfriend of Cryer's ex-wife, Sarah Trigger, claimed she wanted to put a hit on the tube star, something she’s denied.
Two and a Half Men airs Mondays, 9 p.m. ET, CTV/CBS.
