We called it – Undercover Boss has become the next big reality format for CBS, and the Eye is snatching up the opportunity for more, renewing the franchise earlier this week for a sophomore season.
"The wish fulfillment of seeing the top boss perform jobs of the rank and file is universal,” said Jennifer Bresnan, senior vice-president of alternative programming for CBS, in a release.
“And the employees' stories discovered at each company are often relatable and inspirational."
After debuting to a monster 38.7 million viewers in the U.S. and 1.8 million in Canada thanks to a massive Super Bowl lead-in on Feb. 7, Undercover Boss has averaged 18.7 million viewers a week in the U.S.—that’s an average 6.1 million more people than are currently watching Survivor, the network’s frontrunner of reality shows.
Each week, the series follows a high-up executive from companies such as Waste Management or Hooters as he or she goes undercover to discover the inner workings of the companies they run.
There, they see the effects of their decisions, where the problems are and who might just deserve that coveted promotion.
Undercover Boss airs Sundays, 9 p.m. ET, A/CBS.
