Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Richard Belzer has found himself in a legal fray in real life.
Belzer, who plays Sgt. John Munch on the NBC police drama, has been accused of choking an employee at an Apple computer store.
Milan Agnew, who works in the chain’s Upper West Side location in New York City, claims the 65-year-old actor entered the shop on Wednesday and proceeded to shake and choke her, yelling, "I need help!"
Agnew immediately called the cops and filed a harassment complaint. Officers questioned Belzer later released him without charge. The New York Post says authorities examined surveillance footage and determined that the actor had done nothing wrong.
Belzer maintains that Agnew’s charges are completely false, saying the 21-year-old was looking for attention. He also suggests she seek counselling.
"The sad part of it was that police officers were called and had to report to the scene and God knows we don't need all that manpower wasted on a trivial accusation that was clearly done either for attention or to embarrass a famous person," he told the New York Post.
"She wanted attention and she knew who I was and I clearly didn't assault her. It's surprising that Apple would not apologize to such a high-profile, good customer. I've spent thousands of dollars there. I don't want her to be fired, I just want her to seek help.”
