I don’t remember the last time I saw Katherine Heigl on Grey’s Anatomy, but that’s probably because the last time I saw her I tried to ignore her.

Let’s face it, Izzie’s days on the ABC drama are numbered, and not just because she has zero job and husband. It’s been a long-standing rumour that Heigl wants off the show to focus on movies, something that both the network and the actress have denied since last season.

But so far this season, the actress has had at least two leaves, one to shoot a movie and the other to be with her newly adopted child.

She’s also not a fan of the supposed crazy workload, telling David Letterman this past summer, “Our first day back, and it was — I’m going to keep saying this because I hope it embarrasses them — a 17-hour day, which I think is cruel and mean.”

Now Entertainment Weekly reports that the actress is set to leave permanently now that Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes has finally had enough and agreed to let the star out of her contract after six years. (The original cast had all signed on for seven.)

An inside source tells the publication that talks of Heigl’s exit have been going on for months. The star was supposed to return to the series and start working again on March 1, but that never happened. Whether it was Heigl’s unwillingness or a lack of storyline is unclear.

However, if Heigl is released, there will be no major exit for her, as there was for T.R. Knight (George) when he left the show at the end of Season 5. When Izzie left Alex (Justin Chambers) and her reinstated job at Seattle Grace, it was the last time we were reportedly supposed to see her.

Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays, 9 p.m. ET/PT, CTV.
