There has been talk that the current season of 24 will be its last — on Fox, at least.
But it seems there is another network interested in picking up the show just in case Fox opts to cancel it: NBC.
“There’s definitely some interest,” an insider told EW.com about 24’s production company, 20th Century Fox, approaching NBC.
Last week, there were reports that 20th Century Fox and Fox are close to a mutual decision to end the real-time actioner after eight seasons, citing declining ratings and rising costs.
But if you were looking for a film franchise based on Jack Bauer and his notorious bad days, think again. If NBC does pick up the series, a movie won’t happen any time soon since 24’s execs have made it clear that if the show is still on the air, a film is nearly impossible to make, from a production standpoint.
NBC seems like it wants to play the hero here, but let’s leave that to Jack Bauer, shall we? It seems as though 20th and Fox have already made up their minds to end the long-running series. Perhaps 24 should end on a high note in the place it has called home for close to a decade.
Reps for 20th Century Fox and NBC had no comment.
24 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Global/Fox.
