Alias fans will either be cheering or booing this news: ABC is apparently considering a remake of the J.J. Abrams spy drama.
According to E! Online, a reboot could be in the works, although nothing is official just yet.
The whispers have it that the new version would take some elements of the original series, but most likely wouldn’t include any complex mythology such as the Rambaldi prophecy.
A source tells the publication that the Alias remake is an attempt to retain fans of Lost, who said goodbye to their series this week. The network’s freshman sci-fi drama, FlashForward, was pegged to serve as a Lost replacement, but fans didn’t cotton on to it and it was cancelled.
Currently, Abrams is working on the NBC spy show Undercovers, which centres on a spy couple who come out of retirement after opening a catering business.
Alias aired five seasons on ABC from 2001 to 2006. It starred Jennifer Garner, Michael Vartan, Victor Garber and Bradley Cooper.
