It looks like Oprah Winfrey ending her daytime talk show just in time. The New York Post is reporting that during May sweeps, Judge Judy beat The Oprah Winfrey Show in the ratings.

The courtroom show, presided over by Judy Sheindlin, was the most-watched daytime show last month, with Nielsen ratings reporting that 6.4 million viewers tuned in to see her dispense no-nonsense verdicts and bang her gavel.

The show was up 11 per cent from last May, when it came in second to Oprah. It averaged an additional 637,000 viewers last month compared to what it averaged in May 2009.

Meanwhile, The Oprah Winfrey Show averaged 6.2 million viewers last month and was down nine per cent from last May, when it averaged 6.8 million viewers.

Landing in third place was Dr. Phil, which Oprah Winfrey’s company, Harpo, produces. It logged an average of 3.8 million viewers.

The Oprah Winfrey Show ends its run in September 2011, after 25 seasons. Winfrey will then oversee operations on her Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), which she’s co-producing with Discovery.
