Jamie Foxx is returning to TV.
The Oscar winner is returning to his sketch comedy roots on the network that gave him his big break. Fox has picked up the tentatively titled Jamie Foxx Project, a half-hour sketch-comedy he is executive-producing.
“Jamie Foxx’s brilliance first shined on Fox, so it’s fantastic to welcome him back to the network,” said Kevin Reilly, Fox’s president of entertainment, in a press release. “Jamie is an undeniable comedy powerhouse both as a performer and a producer, and teamed with the outrageous next-generation comedy of Affion Crockett, we look forward to the next wave of sketch comedy on Fox.”
Foxx has teamed up with rising star Affion Crockett (The Boondocks), who will headline the comedy as well as serve as producer.
Fox has ordered 12 episodes of the project, which is reportedly similar to In Living Color, the classic Fox sketch show which co-starred Foxx.
“I’m looking forward to delivering a groundbreaking new series and working closely with the talented team at Fox again,” said Foxx.
We can’t imagine Foxx joining the cast on a regular basis, but we’re sure he’ll show up at one point, which would no doubt help provide the show with decent ratings.
The Jamie Foxx Project promises a fresh take on pop culture, which will include spoofs on celebrities, TV shows, movie trailers, commercials and music videos. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced, but it will reportedly be a diverse cast of upcoming young comedians. Also, look out for some big Hollywood names to make appearances.
Jamie Foxx Project is set to debut in primetime during the 2010-11 season.
