It’s official — beginning this January, British television personality Piers Morgan will take over hosting duties from Larry King, making the former man one of the industry’s busiest.
In addition to helming the nightly talker, Morgan will continue his judging duties on America’s Got Talent, thanks to negotiations between CNN and NBC, and he is also expected to keep up hosting duties on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, too.
Clearly, he won’t be one of the top secret judges coming to the The X Factor in the U.S. next fall then.
“[Morgan] is able to look at all aspects of the news with style and humour,” said CNN president Jonathan Klein in a statement confirming the news. “[And he brings] an occasional good laugh in the process.”
Before bringing his hard-ass commentary to reality shows (and winning The Celebrity Apprentice), Morgan was a former editor of News of the World and Daily Mirror, both tabloid newspapers in Britain.
King will continue his own hosting duties until Dec. 16, at which time he will helm his final show. This won’t be the last viewers see of him, though, as he will continue to host specials for the network every once in a while.
For months, Morgan has been speculated as King’s No. 1 replacement; his name surfaced shortly after King announced his retirement this past June.
The network declined to announce the name of the new interview series helmed by Morgan, which will air weekdays at 9 p.m. ET. The network’s hope seems to be that 45-year-old Morgan will bring a more youthful audience to the program with relevant content and news-making interviews.
