I was knee deep in recent headlines involving Tila Tequila from A Shot at Love fame who was claiming she was pregnant. For those of you who aren’t aware, Tila claims she is a bisexual-turned-lesbian, and was engaged to socialite Casey Johnson, who was found dead late last year. Tila claimed the couple was planning on having a baby together and began the process before Johnson passed away. Now, she alleges she is pregnant with the baby.

Since Tila hasn’t been the most truthful reality star in history, stories began to circulate that the whole thing was a hoax. The most recent rumour now has Tila deciding to adopt a two-year-old child from a Russian orphanage.

All this juicy gossip had me thinking, why are we all so curious about celebrities and their pregnancies? Every magazine cover has speculated a pregnancy even though the naked eye could tell that perhaps said star was just wearing a less-than-flattering shirt or just finished hitting the buffet. Reality stars are especially prone to these allegations and most of the times they actually are knocked up, since birth stories are in high demand nowadays.

I’m thankful that teens watching these women pop out babies left, right and centre have one show that could takes all the glamour out of pregnancy: 16 and Pregnant. I know I pump this show up every chance I get, but it really is great. It’s one aspect of reality TV amongst the usual hot-tub make-outs and promiscuity that sends a positive “think before you act” message.
