It’s a little-known fact that August is National Inventors Month, and a month that pays tribute to inventions and creativity among scientists got us thinking about some of our favourite intellects on TV.

I don’t know about you, but the real-life scientists I know are intelligent and sharp, albeit a little quirky. TV inventors tend to enjoy the same qualities with one exception: they’re either unable to make a working invention or they’re completely mad.

Take Dr. Bunsen Honeydew from the ever-loved series The Muppet Show. While he’s portrayed as a witty and enthusiastic scientist, pretty much every invention he’s tried to make has blown up in his face. On the other hand we see many seemingly mad scientists like Pinky and the Brain, whose sole purpose in life is to use their intelligence for destruction.

Those failures are probably why we love these intellects. I mean, what’s so funny about someone who tries to create something that actually works to help people? Not much. Whatever the reason, we love watching inventors do their thing on our favourite shows. So to celebrate a month devoted to them and inventors all over the world, we’re asking you to test your knowledge on TV’s smartest characters.
