I’ll be honest; it took some time for Parks and Recreation to grow on me. But I’ve seen it really come around this season, and last night I realized that any show that can combine a canoe, a nanny cam and a possum named Fairway Frank, deserves a spot on NBC’s prestigious Thursday night line-up.
Mark and Ron were a new, but really funny duo last night. Because of violation codes, Mark refused to bend the rules to sign off on Ron’s workshop expansion, despite serious persistence from Ron. A stubborn battle of wills followed, ending with Mark pulling out his tool belt to help a friend, and Ron returning the favor by leaving a canoe in Mark’s office.
Meanwhile, Leslie and Andy set out to catch Fairway Frank, a possum that was loitering at the golf course. Andy caught the possum with his bare hands and became the town hero, but when it was discovered that the possum wasn’t the same one that was third on Pawnee’s most wanted pet list, April and Leslie had to hide the poor guy to save him from an execution.
The best part of the episode was a duo that never gets old. April got mad at Andy because she realized he’s still obsessed with Ann, but after picking up on her angry vibe, he made a list of all the things he’d done that day and promised never to do any of them again, in case they were what upset her. Aww! Their quirky relationship is a highlight of the show, and I can’t wait to see where it’s headed.
So, the absurdity of last night’s episode has me convinced that Parks and Rec is a show to keep watching. Amy Poehler is fitting into the Leslie Knope role more each week and the characters as a whole are really started to gel. Most importantly, there is more craziness to come: Leslie is about to get a new love interest!
