The hierarchy of things that terrify me goes something like this: big fish in tiny aquariums, me wearing string bikinis and — dun, dun, duh! — public speaking. All those eyes glued on you, the pressure to put a sentence together … it reduces me to a quivering lump of flesh every time.
As a result, I’m awed by those who can address the masses with ease, particularly reality TV hosts, who must amp up the unscripted drama, sometimes winging it while maintaining credibility. If they can do it looking good, well, that almost constitutes superhero status as far as I’m concerned.
