This week, as Ellen DeGeneres makes her controversial debut replacing Paula Abdul on American Idol, the setting couldn’t be more perfect as the finalists head to the hills for Hollywood Week. But the question surrounding her Idol debut has been what qualifications does the talk-show host have to judge a singing talent?
As the first judge with no singing background whatsoever, it was a bit of a head-scratcher when DeGeneres was named Abdul’s replacement, but if the comedian’s talk show ratings and popularity polls are any indication, the bottom line is that people love her and want to hear what she has to say.
