Hi Amber, this summer I have been watching the new series Scoundrels and I thought it was a great show; I loved it. I would like to know if this is scheduled to come back again any time in the near future. As with any other good series, just when things start to get interesting they get cancelled — it’s so frustrating! Hopefully this isn’t one of those times. As always your updates with all our favourite shows is great. —Josephine

Amber: Prepare to be frustrated. While ABC hasn’t cancelled the series just yet, I have a strong feeling that it will. Every summer the Alphabet network makes the same mistake: it schedules character-based dramas to air during the summer, doesn’t give them time to grow, and then the shows are unceremoniously pulled until the next summer, when a brand-new crop can take their place. If Scoundrels was being renewed (despite its low ratings), I think we would have heard by now. Look how fast ABC snatched up a second season of Rookie Blue.

Hi Amber, I am a huge fan of Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami. They are definitely my guilty pleasure! I hate that no Canadian channels air either show. Do you know why that is? Are there any plans for either show to air in Canada? —SC

Amber: Nope, as of right now there are no plans to bring the Kardashians to Canada. The sisters and their shows air on E! Network in the U.S. — a station that clearly wasn’t a hit here. Canwest tried to bring E! Canada to fruition a few years ago, but it, along with the shows it boasted, went dark.

Hey Amber, I loved your coverage of the TCA tour on Twitter (yes, I follow). Is The Colony ever going to be shown on Discovery Canada? They have it on their site — but no info. I know you can help me, you’re the best! —Suzanne

Amber: I’m so happy to hear you’ve embraced my favourite new social networking addiction. Thanks for following along. I have bad news for you, though. Discovery did air The Colony — last February. That’s why it’s on the site but with no info. As of now there are no plans to re-air it, but its always a possibility in the future.

Hi Amber, I read your column every week. I really enjoyed Scoundrels, The Good Guys and 100 Questions this summer. Are any of them returning? —Daniela

Amber: Aho! It’s my No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency friend. I remember you. By the way, HBO has confirmed that it’s working on scripts for potential Ladies movies — if they can get the cast on-board, etc. etc. Basically it’s still slim, but I thought you might like that update.

As for the aforementioned questions, Scoundrels is probably dead (see above), as is 100 Questions. But The Good Guys returns this fall on Friday nights; the show will be coupled with Human Target.

Hi Amber, I love your column! When is the new Project Runway airing in Canada? Will we have a Project Runway Canada this year? —Luis

Amber: It’s odd, Slice still hasn’t announced a return date for Project Runway, which makes me a touch nervous for fans, although we’ve always had the show later here than the U.S. But Project Runway Canada is completely dead —Canwest cancelled that show and has no plans to revive it.

Hi Amber, I heard a rumor that FlashForward had been cancelled? Is that true? I love that show! Also, do you know if Being Erica will be returning? I really enjoyed that show, too, and love the fact that it's Canadian! If you have any info on either of those shows, that would be great. —Jaime

Amber: I have lots of info (my head is filled with useless TV knowledge). So, the rumours are true, and FlashForward isn’t returning. The series was cancelled in May, and there is no hope of a reunion. If you liked Joseph Fiennes, though, I recommend watching the new Camelot series he’s starring in. Let me put it this way; Fiennes with a shaved head is twice as hot. Tee hee.

Being Erica also returns this fall for a third season, thank goodness. I’m not sure fans would have been too happy with that cliffhanger ending if it weren’t.

Hi Amber, when will we see the fall lineup on the TV Guide website? —Pam

Amber: This Wednesday, Sept. 1. I’m pretty psyched about it, actually — there are over 200 pages of info, reviews, video clips and some wicked, printable calendars.

When will The Tudors Season 4 be seen in Canada? —Diane

Amber: This fall on CBC, beginning Sept. 22.

I love both Living in Your Car and Gravity. Any word on these two shows returning for second seasons? I have heard that Gravity is cancelled? —Doug

Amber: Yeppers, Gravity is indeed dead. Starz opted not to pick up a sophomore season after low ratings. However, The Movie Network and Movie Central did order a second season of Living in Your Car; that will bow in 2011.

Hi Amber, I really like The Gates. Do you know if it will be cancelled? I hate to get invested in shows the first season as it seems they always get cancelled! —Anonymous

Amber: Everything that I wrote above regarding Scoundrels could also apply to The Gates. Personally, I wasn’t a fan and would much rather watch True Blood on a Sunday night, but I guess I could see how Gates accumulated a small audience. Mind you, it was definitely a small audience.

Hey Amber, last year I got hooked on a show called Mental. It was a midseason show that was intelligent and outside the box. The season finale showed the lead character being forced to leave. Do you know if there are plans to bring the show back or is it gone for good? —Ben

Amber: Mental was a summer show on Fox — and I also quite enjoyed it. There were a couple of problems with it, however, like its similarity to House and the fact that some of the supporting characters were terrible, but I still thought it had potential. Unfortunately Fox didn’t feel the same way, and the series was canned. If you liked Chris Vance in the lead though, look for him on the upcoming season of Dexter in a multi-episode arc.

Hi Amber, I was wondering if you could tell me when all of the shows are starting their fall schedule? I have seen some start the week of Sept. 20th. Is this correct? —Brian

Amber: This is correct — most of the new series begin their seasons the week of Sept. 20, with the exception of Survivor, Shattered, The Vampire Diaries, Parenthood and few other notables. Check back on Wednesday, Sept. 1 for our annual Fall Preview, which will give you all the deets. And if you need a reminder, just follow me on Twitter.

That’s all for this week!

A TV junkie, Amber will watch just about anything – once. One of her biggest pet peeves is when networks bounce shows around their schedule, leading to an eventual cancellation. While current gems include The Big Bang Theory, The Office, Dexter, True Blood, House and The Mentalist, she’s still crying over the cancellations of Kitchen Confidential and Pushing Daisies.

Now Amber devotes her time to analyzing the current state of TV and helping readers dissect complicated schedules. She’ll answer a variety of questions about past and present shows, spoilers and casting: anything is — and should be, up for discussion.
